English is taught daily in each class, both in discrete lessons and across the curriculum. We aim for children to see themselves as confident readers, writers and speakers, take pleasure in reading and writing and develop strong literacy skills that they can apply throughout their lives.
We place great importance on oracy, as spoken language helps children learn, communicate and express ideas clearly. Through discussion, storytelling, drama and presentations, children develop vocabulary, confidence in articulating their ideas and listen respectfully to others.
Reading - word recognition and comprehension
Each class reads daily, with access to an exciting, and varied range of books. We support some learners though programmes such as Nessy, alongside dyslexia-friendly books. Our collections reflect the diverse world we line in, so all children can see themselves represented.
Writing - spelling, handwriting, punctuation and grammar, and composition
Our writing curriculum uses high-quality texts and real-world opportunities. Children develop skills in their writer's toolbox, enabling them to build fluency, accuracy and creativity in their writing. We provide programmes, strategies and resources tailored to meet their child's needs.
