English

English is taught daily in each class, both discretely and through opportunities embedded across the curriculum. It is our aim that children see themselves as readers and writers, that they take pleasure in reading and writing and that they have literacy skills that they can apply throughout their lives.

English is made up of:

Reading -> word recognition, comprehension
Each class reads daily and has an exciting, and varied, range of books to choose from. We support our learners though the use of programmes such as Nessy and also through dyslexia friendly books. We have also worked hard to ensure that our books are representative of the diverse world that we live in.

Writing -> spelling, handwriting, punctuation and grammar, composition
We have created a writing curriculum that is based on high quality texts and real world opportunities. We support all of our learners to develop the skills needed in their 'writer's toolbox' to enable them to build fluency and creativity in composing their writing. We support our pupils with a range of programmes, strategies and equipment according to their needs.
